The Morning Star is a left-wing British daily newspaper with a print run of 13,000 to 14,000 copies.
The newspaper emerged from the party newspaper of the Communist Party of Great Britain founded in 1930 ( Daily Worker ). In 1945 it was taken over by an independent readers' association ( People's Press Printing Society ). In 1966 the name was changed to Morning Star .
It sees itself as the "only socialist daily newspaper in Great Britain" ("Britain's only socialist daily").
An online version of the newspaper has been available since April 2004. Since 2009, all content has been made freely available online. An e-paper of the complete newspaper has been published daily for a fee since 2012 .
On the occasion of the appointment of editor-in-chief Ben Chacko, Labor MP and later party leader Jeremy Corbyn praised the Morning Star as "the most valuable and only voice we have in the daily media".
