The Murrel
The Murrel is a villa near the Scottish town of Aberdour in the Council Area Fife . In 1974 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
description
The two-story Arts and Crafts villa was built in 1908. The Scottish architect Francis William Deas , who lived in it himself, is responsible for the design .
The Murrel is isolated around one kilometer north of Aberdour. The three compactly arranged, asymmetrically constructed wings of the villa that are not at right angles to each other enclose a small courtyard. To the east, the living area is bordered by a work and staff wing. This is larger than the villa itself and is strikingly designed as a parabolic arch. The outbuildings include a coach house and a workshop. There are three enclosed gardens on the south and east sides. The masonry consists of cut quarry stone . For color variation, stones from four different stone bridges were used. Most building openings are segment-arched .
