The Unarchiver

The Unarchiver is free proprietary software (formerly free software under LGPL ) for decompressing compressed data and archive files in a range of over 30 file formats. It also works as a front end to libxad , which means it supports numerous other older formats. It is written in Objective-C and uses Cocoa for the graphical user interface. It supports more formats than the competing Archive Utility (formerly known as BOMArchiveHelper), the unpacking software that comes with macOS . It can also handle filenames with characters from non-English character sets. The current version requires Mac OS X version 10.7 or higher or Linux with the GNUstep libraries to operate. The Unarchiver is the first free software to support RAR archives according to version 3 of the RAR format. The Unarchiver was distributed as free software in source code under the terms of version 2.1 or higher of the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). Version 4.1.0 is under an unknown license and is distributed as freeware . From version 2.7 it can also be obtained from Apple's App Store .
