The Vondells

The Vondells was a 1964-1965 active American R & B - and soul - singing group from Chicago later from the formations The Lost Generation and Mother's Finest emerged.

Band history

Lowrell Simon, Jessie Dean, Glen Murdock, William McCoy, and James Neely attended high school on Chicago's Southside . Simon, Murdock and McCoy went to Philips High, the other two to Dunbar High. Together they founded the LaVondells singing group in 1964. With their single Errand Boy / Then I'll Know , which was released earlier this year , the musicians became stars among schoolchildren. The formation changed its name to The Vondells and released the R&B song Lenora on Marvello Records in July 1964 . On the B-side is the title Valentino . Both songs are accompanied by the King Kolax Orchestra .

Lenora became a local hit, selling 25,000 copies, but success was limited to Chicago. Manager Bill Coday arranged for the Vondells to work with Chicago soul singer Ruby Stackhouse. They recorded the single Please Tell Me Why / Waiting for Kellmac Records together and made some local appearances. Then Stackhouse ended the collaboration, called itself Ruby Andrews in the future and released Casonova (Your Playing Days Are Over) on Zodiac Records.

The Vondells fell apart when Dean was drafted into military service. Murdock formed a duo with singer Joyce Kennedy, from which the band Mother's Finest ( Baby Love , 1977) emerged in the early 1970s . After his military service, Dean founded the band The Lost Generation ( The Sly, Slick, and the Wicked , 1970) with Lowrell and Fred Simon and Larry Brownlee .
