The Way of the Exploding Fist is a fighting game developed by Beam Software in 1985 and published by Melbourne House . The game was available for various platforms. The Commodore 64 version is particularly well known . There were two sequels, with different gameplay. The Fist game series was one of the first with realistic graphics and movement sequences and is considered to be the trailblazer for the classic International Karate Plus (IK +).

Game description

The game is based on the arcade game Karate Champ (1984). Two players compete against each other in a karate duel. If there is no second player, a computer opponent can also be chosen. There are four different levels with different backgrounds, outside and inside in the dojo .

Unlike most fighting games of this type, there are no life bars; two full hits per round are sufficient. There are 16 different punch or kick combinations and over 600 sprite images , so the animations were very realistic for the conditions at the time. The graphic artist was Greg Holland.

The SID -music arranged Neil Brennan after the Chinese Dance of the Yao People .

The game was ported to ZX Spectrum (1985), Amstrad CPC , Commodore 16 and BBC Micro .
