Game principle / structure / sequence
The game is basically divided into two parts that are played alternately.
- Combat rounds
- Intermediate rounds in two variants
- Fend off balls
- Remove bombs
The game can be played by up to two human players. Missing people are taken over by the computer . In 2001 the hacker group "The Dreams" released a patched C64 version, with which you can play the game with three people using a 4-player adapter.
Combat rounds
In a combat round, the actual main component, 3 karate fighters duel against an Asian background image. The aim of a round is to land 3 frontal hits. If you hit an opponent from behind, it is worth half a frontal hit. The time for this is 30 seconds. If there is no winner within the normal time, the one with the most rainfall wins the round. The last one of the round is eliminated. If the two non-winners have the same number of points, nobody is eliminated.
In addition to the hit scores, points are awarded for the various techniques as in other games. If you reach a certain number of points, the player's character gets a new belt in a different color .
Here is a list of the possible techniques:
- deep kick / foot sweep
- medium high kick
- high kick
- high kick from the turn
- Jump kick
- double-sided jump kick
- high punch
- medium punch
- crouched deep kick
- Headbutt
- Flip backwards (pure defensive technique)
Intermediate rounds
Intermediate rounds only serve to earn points for the belt scoring and have no influence on progress in the game.
In the intermediate round game of defending balls , the player is in the middle of the playing area with a kind of shield in his hand. From left and right, metal balls jump at different heights, which the player either fends off with the shield or, in the case of very high balls, ducks under them. Every ball blocked or dodged gives points, and surviving a certain number gives an additional bonus.
In the intermediate round game Bomb Kick , bombs with a burning fuse appear randomly on the playing area and must be kicked off the playing field by the player. If the player does not manage to remove the explosive device before the fuse has burned down, it will explode and shoot fragments that can hit the player. The round ends if a fragment is hit. Each removed bomb and surviving a certain number is rewarded with points.
