The economic miracle

The Wirtschaftswunder was a band from Neue Deutsche Welle in the early 1980s.

The Wirtschaftswunder had an international cast: the Sicilian Angelo Galizia (singer), the Czech Tom Dokoupil (guitar), the Canadian Mark Pfurtscheller (keyboards) and the German Jürgen Beuth (drums).

In 1980 they contributed the play Der Kommissar to the 3 singles pack called Die Limburger Pest , which was based on the theme song of the television series of the same name . The track became an underground hit and was on the sound charts for several months . The first LP Salmobray was released in early 1981 with mostly very experimental, sometimes still very punk sounds.

After a forced break due to a touring accident, they signed a contract with the record company Deutsche Grammophon - although they were already under contract (via a label deal for Dokoupil's label Tausend Augen ) with Bernhard Mikulski (then pop import, later ZYX Music ). A legal battle ensued, which The Wirtschaftswunder and Deutsche Grammophon lost. Therefore, the band could not benefit from the great success that an appearance on the TV show Bio's Bahnhof brought. Due to the legal disputes, the second LP The Wirtschaftswunder went under, which seems more straightforward than its forerunner and on which the band tried a combination of pop with experimental elements.

In 1985 The Wirtschaftswunder dissolved. Tom Dokoupil went to Cologne, where he is still active today as a musician, especially in the field of film and television music. Angelo Galizia, Mark Pfurtscheller and Jürgen Beuth founded the follow-up band Chin Chat and released the album Introducing (single: Desire ), toured Germany and appeared on the TV show Formula One . Angelo Galizia went back to Sicily in the late 1980s. Mark Pfurtscheller is still active as a musician today, with his own projects in the field of electronics (ambient, techno, trip-hop), including the internationally successful techno project Kopfuss Resonator and Electric Source. He continues to run the Chin Chat Studio (the former Wirtschaftswunder studio ). Jürgen Beuth is also an active musician, worked in various theater music projects and devoted himself to the rhythmic education of children and young people.
