Theater an der Kotzen (Divadlo v Kotcích)

The Theater an der Kotzen (also: Kotzen-Theater or Kotzentheater , Czech: Divadlo v Kotcích ) was a theater and opera house in Prague on Kotzen Street (today: V Kotcích), which was the second public opera theater in Prague to flourish in the years 1739 to 1783 had.

It was preceded by the opera theater of Count Franz Anton von Sporck , which existed between 1724 and 1735. "Kotzen" is a Slavic-German term for a marketplace. Speaking pieces and ballets were also presented in the house. For many seasons it was leased by the Italian impresario Santo Lapis, then by Giovanni Battista Locatelli , who in 1750 brought Christoph Willibald Gluck's Ezio and other works to the stage in Prague . Later impresarios who worked there were Gaetano Molinari and Giuseppe Bustelli . The house was closed in 1783 for security reasons.

This was followed by Count Nostitz 's “National Theater”, today's Estates Theater (“Stavovské divadlo”), which opened on April 21, 1783.
