Theater of dance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Theater des Tanzes was founded on June 15, 1945 in Weimar by ballet master Henn Haas . In the first year it found its domicile in the Deutsches Haus at Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 8.

With Princess Turandot , Germany's first dance theater had its first premiere on August 21, 1945. In the summer of 1946 the theater moved to Erfurt and moved into the former villa of the eselligkeitsverein Ressource in the cloister corridor . Since the building and especially the large hall were still under renovation, the ensemble had to move to various halls in the city and regularly went on guest tours.

A dance school has been attached to the Theater des Tanzes since it was founded . Even with the move to Erfurt, the school location in Weimar was maintained. As the only one of its kind, this training center for stage dance received the authorization to take state diploma examinations from the Thuringian Ministry for Public Education.

The Theater des Tanzes also had an archive for dance art since January 1946 .

In July 1949 the Theater des Tanzes was closed. In the same year, Henn Hass founded the Henn Haas dance ensemble in Berlin on behalf of the city council .

The estate of Henn Haas and his Theater des Tanzes is now in the dance archive in the holdings of the Leipzig University Library .
