The theater of Halicarnassus ( Turkish Bodrum Antik Tiyatrosu ) was built in the 1st half of the 3rd century BC. Or in the late 2nd century BC. Chr. Dated Greek Theater in Halicarnassus , now Bodrum , Turkey .

history

The theater of Halicarnassus was built in the Hellenistic period, its Proskenion was remodeled in Roman times (2nd century AD). The auditorium, the so-called koilon, was 86 meters wide, the diameter of the orchestra was 18 meters. The calculated audience capacity was around 10,000 to 13,000 people.

Renovated in the 1970s and 1990s by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism , the theater hosts cultural events such as the Bodrum International Ballet Festival, as well as concerts by Turkish and international artists. The current seating capacity of the theater is 10,000 people.
