Rudi Theater House
The Theaterhaus Rudi is an amateur theater venue in Dresden. The listed building is located in the north-western district of Kaditz at a bend in Leipziger Strasse between Fechnerstrasse and Rankestrasse.
There are four venues available, in addition to the theater hall, these are the theater basement, the theater under the roof and the occasional theater pub.
history
The former mill owner Karl Friedrich Trentzsch from Trachau had an inn built about 350 meters west of the Trachau village center from 1872 , which opened as a Feldschlößchen in March 1874 . A quarter of a century later, a new dance and entertainment hall with an attached hall was built according to plans by Carl Käfer . Due to the increasing popularity of cinemas, a movie theater with around 300 seats was set up there after the First World War .
After the Second World War, the restaurant on the ground floor continued to operate, and several families were quartered above it during the housing shortage. The hall was used as a warehouse and the SED district leadership also used the building for a time. The dance hall known as the “ Rudi Arndt ” youth club house was a well-known youth club at the end of the 1950s.
After the renovation by the city of Dresden, which acquired the house in 1976, it was reopened in November 1981. Nationally known rock bands performed in the basement disco, and later there were repeated fights that earned the house the nickname "bloody Rudi".
After the reunification there was a temporary leisure club "Twenty Five" in the house; the originally Löbtau “Theater 50” played in the large hall and the one in the basement in the mid-1990s. The house at Fechnerstrasse 2a has had its current name since 1997.
