Theatura. Zeitschrift für Theater & Literatur was founded in 1983 by Klaus H. Friedrich in Munich- Schwabing . The first issue came out on September 30, 1983 in Munich and had a print run of 500 copies and was 50 pages thick in DIN A5 format. The title page was decorated with a pen drawing by the painter and graphic artist Fritz Hörauf .

By 1995 the print run was increased to 1,000 copies and from the third edition the format was changed to DIN A4.

The focus was on experimental theater and short prose .

No. 12, in which the editor described his encounters with Herbert Marcuse, Jürgen Habermas and Rudi Dutschke, was published in book form in 2008 ( ISBN 3926662034 ).
