Thematic program
A thematic program is a policy-based sequence of activities related to a specific task. In August 2005, the European Commission finally proposed seven thematic programs with a global focus in a communication on external action under the Financial Perspective (COM (2005) 324) in order to achieve certain political objectives of the European Union :
- worldwide promotion of democracy and human rights
- Promoting human and social development
- Promotion of environmental protection and the sustainable management of natural resources, including energy
- Support to civil society organizations and other non-state actors from the EU and its partner countries in the field of development work
- Promoting food security
- Creation of more favorable framework conditions for the maintenance and further development of bilateral relations between the EU and political partners and trading partners
- financial and technical support for countries and regions in relation to migration and asylum problems
