Thematic program

A thematic program is a policy-based sequence of activities related to a specific task. In August 2005, the European Commission finally proposed seven thematic programs with a global focus in a communication on external action under the Financial Perspective (COM (2005) 324) in order to achieve certain political objectives of the European Union :

  1. worldwide promotion of democracy and human rights
  2. Promoting human and social development
  3. Promotion of environmental protection and the sustainable management of natural resources, including energy
  4. Support to civil society organizations and other non-state actors from the EU and its partner countries in the field of development work
  5. Promoting food security
  6. Creation of more favorable framework conditions for the maintenance and further development of bilateral relations between the EU and political partners and trading partners
  7. financial and technical support for countries and regions in relation to migration and asylum problems
