Theophilus III. of Alexandria
Theophilus III. Pagkostas (* 1764 on Patmos ; † January 24, 1833 ibid) was Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria from 1805 to 1825 .
Theophilos, Metropolitan of Libya from 1798 to 1805 , was elected Patriarch of Alexandria in 1805 after the death of his predecessor Parthenios II. For health reasons he went to Patmos in 1819 without ever returning to Alexandria . He took an active part in the Greek Revolution . Under pressure from the Ottoman government, he was deposed in 1825 by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople . Theophilos died impoverished on Patmos and was buried in the Johannes monastery there.
