Theotokos Church
Theotokos Church is the name of Orthodox churches and monasteries. "Theotokos" means Mother of God and is a nickname of Maria , of her on the Council of Ephesus was awarded the 431st
The Theotokos was the patron saint of Constantinople . Hence, churches in Constantinople were named after her, including:
- Church of the Theotokos in the Blachernenviertel ( Θεοτὸκος τών Βλαχερνών Theotokos ton Blachernon ), built in the middle of the 5th century, which housed the mantle of Our Lady. This cloak has been worn in procession around the city since the 9th century when enemy attacks were feared.
- Church of the Theotokos Chalkoprateia ( Chalkopratskiche ), founded in the early 5th century, in which the belt of the Blessed Virgin was kept
- Panagia Eleousa Church of the Pantocrator Monastery
- Monastery of Panaghia Hodegetria ( Hodegon Monastery )
- Church of the Theotokos Pammakaristos ( Pammakaristos Church )
- Church of the Theotokos Pege (spring), built around 500 on a holy spring
- Church of the Theotokos at the Pemptos Gate
