This Ole House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

" This Ole House " is a pop song by Stuart Hamblen from 1954. A German version was created under the title "Das alten Haus von Rocky-Docky" by Kurt Feltz , and sung by Bruce Low , with its first publication in 1955, which 1981 was again covered by Peter Kraus . In Germany today, the version by Shakin 'Stevens published in 1981 is best known.

Background and interpretation

According to his own account, Stuart Hamblen and his friend John Wayne discovered an old hut while hunting in a remote mountain area, in which they found the body of a man. Hamblen transferred this experience into his text for "This Ole House", where he sees the dead body as a "house for the soul" that is left behind after death when the deceased "meets the saints" ("ready to meet the saints." ").
