Tholtan from Vronk Doo

A tholtan (plur. Tholtans) is the ruin of a small farmhouse in dry stone construction on the Isle of Man . The tholtan can often be found around the hills in the mountain meadows (also in groups). The walls of the long sides of the buildings, which are always at ground level, sometimes have clearly protruding stones above the door and window height, to which the thatched roof was attached with ropes. The abandoned courtyards have dry stone walls that are still intact after over 100 years. In Cregneash Village in the south of the island, there is an open-air agricultural museum with reconstructed tholtans.
