Donaubauer took part in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1986 in Lake Placid , USA . There he won the bronze medal in the team competition on February 17, 1986 together with Roland Schmidt and Udo Laber. On March 13, 1987, he won his first and only place in the points in the Nordic Combined World Cup in a Gundersen competition on the normal hill followed by a cross-country skiing distance of 15 kilometers, which took place in Leningrad in the Soviet Union .
