Thomas Frei (born January 19, 1985 ) is a former Swiss cyclist .
Career
Thomas “Thömu” Frei became Swiss junior champion in road racing in 2002. As a U23 driver, he won the Swiss Mountain Championship in 2006.
2007 moved to the Kazakh ProTeam Astana . From 2009 until his release in April 2010, Frei was under contract with the Swiss-American BMC Racing Team .
Doping ban 2010
In April 2010 it became known that Frei had been able to detect the intake of the blood doping agent EPO in an A-sample. Frei then admitted the use of doping and refrained from opening the B sample; the BMC Racing Team separated from him. According to Frei, he first consumed EPO in 2009.
In June 2010 the disciplinary body of Swiss Olympic sentenced Frei to a two-year ban and a fine of 1,500 francs. The demand for a higher penalty from the “Swiss Antidoping Foundation” was rejected by Swiss Olympic.
Since the beginning of 2013 he has been managing director of the real estate company Dominium AG .
