Thomas Ihringer

Thomas Ihringer (born November 30, 1953 in Darmstadt ; † August 8, 2015 there ) was a German mathematician and professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

Ihringer studied mathematics and business administration from 1972 to 1979 and then worked as a research assistant. In 1982 he received his doctorate with a thesis entitled On linear congruence class geometries by Rudolf Wille at the TH-Darmstadt . His habilitation followed in 1987 also at the TH Darmstadt. In the same year he took up a substitute professorship at the University of Kaiserslautern . In 1990 he became a guest lecturer at the Brandenburg State University in Potsdam . Since 1996 he has been a professor at the TU Darmstadt.

Ihringer worked in the field of general / universal algebra and discrete mathematics , in particular he dealt with the connections of geometry and algebra, quasi-groups, function and relation algebras, ordered sets, and finite geometric structures. He has the Erdős number 2.

Thomas Ihringer died after a long illness on the night of August 7th to 8th, 2015.
