Thomas Karny

Thomas Karny (born May 20, 1964 in Graz ) is an Austrian writer and journalist.

The focus of his work is on contemporary and sports history topics. He became known through his documentary novel “Die Hatz” (1992), in which he describes the events during the “ Mühlviertel Hare Hunt ” initiated by the SS in February 1945 . The material was successfully filmed by Austrian director Andreas Gruber under the title Hasenjagd - For Sheer Cowardice There Is No Mercy (1994). In his other work, Karny dealt with the death penalty , which was reintroduced in Austria in 1933, and how the Austrian post-war justice system dealt with Nazi perpetrators. His best-known sports publication is the biography of Rupert Hollaus , Austria's first motorsport world champion. Karny has received several awards for his literary work. 1989/90 he was the city clerk of Linz.
