Thomas Keßler (diplomat)

Thomas Keßler (* 1943 in Hettstedt ) is a former German diplomat. From July 2003 to 2008 he was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Melbourne .

Life

After studying economics at the University of Hamburg and graduating with a degree in economics, Thomas Keßler headed a project to promote small-scale industry in the Pakhtia province in Afghanistan from 1974 to 1977.

After joining the Foreign Service in 1978, he was employed at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, at the Embassy in Bangladesh, at the Foreign Office in Bonn, and with the German delegation at the world trade negotiations in Geneva (" Uruguay Round "), and at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.

Before his post as Consul General, Thomas Keßler worked in the Foreign Office in Berlin from 1999 to 2003. The jurisdiction of the Melbourne Consulate General includes Victoria, South and Western Australia, Tasmania.

During his tenure in Melbourne, the German school opened in the city. Keßler's successor was Anne-Marie Schleich , who has been the new Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Melbourne since August 2008.
