Thomas Scharping (* 1948 in Witten ) is a German sinologist and university professor .

Life

From 1973 to 1988 Scharping was a China consultant at a research and policy advisory institute of the German federal government. From 1988 to 2013 he held the chair for modern history, politics, economics and society in China at the University of Cologne .
