Thomas Volling is a German economist .

Life

He completed his studies in industrial engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the University of Rhode Island with a doctorate in 2008 at the Institute for Automobile Economics and Industrial Production (AIP) in Braunschweig on the subject of "Order- related planning for multi-variant series production". From 2008 to 2014 he headed the “Automotive Production and Logistics” working group at the AIP and completed his habilitation in 2014 on the subject of “Demand and capacity management in the automotive supply chain”. Since April 2014 he has held the chair for production and logistics at the Faculty of Economics at the FernUniversität in Hagen .

His areas of work are business management problems in production, logistics and sustainability as well as their modeling and solution with the help of quantitative models and methods of operations research and questions that arise in the manufacture and distribution of varied products, especially at the interfaces of production, logistics and sales .
