Thorax caliper

The Burri thorax caliper is an aid for determining the position of the right atrium of a patient lying down.

The name is derived from thorax for chest and the measuring instrument slide caliper . It is placed on the top and bottom of the patient , with a spike acting as a pointer and dividing the vertical extent of the lying upper body in a ratio of 2 to 3. Use a felt pen to mark the location on the side of the ribs . This is how you prepare to measure the central venous pressure in the superior vena cava.
