The Thrust2 is a turbine-powered record-breaking car designed by John Ackroyd, with which Richard Noble set a world speed record for land vehicles (over one mile, average speed 1047.26 km / h) on October 4, 1983 . It is the direct predecessor of the ThrustSSC . This record was only broken in 1997 by Andy Green with the ThrustSSC (1227.985 km / h). The vehicle is now in the Museum of British Road Transport in Coventry .

Technical specifications

  • The Thrust2 is powered by a Rolls-Royce RB.146 (Avon302C) jet turbine, which delivers 72 kN of thrust.
  • The Thrust2 is 8,331 m long and 2,540 m wide and has a height of 2,134 m.
  • The wheelbase is 6.35 m and the track on the front axle is 2.007 m, on the rear axle 2.464 m.
