Thuban (geographic information system)

Thuban is a geographic information system that can be used to examine geodata .

Version 1.0 of Thuban was released at the beginning of January 2004 after two and a half years of development. The program can process data in Shapefile format and from databases based on PostgreSQL and PostGIS .

The program was developed to close a gap in FreeGIS and is in turn used as a basis for other programs such as the simulation system GREAT-ER (Geography Referenced Regional Exposure Assessment Tool for European Rivers).

The program is currently available in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. Among other things, it is based on the wxPython framework and thus runs on most operating systems . Installation packages are available for Debian , Red Hat Linux , Mac OS X , and Windows 2000 .
