Ti Punch ( French abbreviation for: Petit Punch , literally "small punch ") is a cocktail that comes from the archipelago of the French Antilles and belongs to the Sours .

A Ti Punch usually consists of rhum agricole , lime and cane sugar and, unlike most other cocktails, can also be mixed without ice.

Rhum Agricole is the name of a rum from the French West Indies that is made from sugar cane juice and not from molasses . There are various types of preparation and drinking rituals among the local population. It is not uncommon in the French Antilles for guests to be served the ingredients and to prepare their own ti punch. A frequently used saying is: chacun prépare sa propre mort , which basically means: "Everyone can prepare his own death".

preparation

The Ti Punch can be prepared with whole pieces of lime or lime juice. Pipe sugar syrup instead of cane sugar is also not uncommon.

However, the use of ice is rare, especially in the French Antilles. The Rhum Agricole always has the largest share in a classic Ti Punch.

A Ti Punch can be prepared as follows, for example: Put 3 parts (e.g. 5  cl ) of white Rhum Agricole and one part (e.g. 1 to 2 cl) of sugar syrup in a tumbler on ice cubes . The ingredients are stirred and a quarter of lime is squeezed out over the glass and added.

variants

A Ti Punch with brown Rhum Agricole is also known as Ti Punch Vieux . Various forms of Ti Punch are also known, which are prepared with falernum (a syrup or liqueur with ginger, spices and lime), cocktail bitters or fresh ginger.
