Tia Maria is a liqueur that contains water, sugar, Jamaican rum, Blue Mountain coffee and vanilla and has an alcohol content of 20  % vol. having. Along with Kahlúa, it is one of the most famous coffee liqueurs in Germany.

According to the manufacturer's marketing legend, Tia Maria's recipe is said to be based on an old family recipe from Jamaica. After an aristocratic family fled during the colonial war in the 17th century, the liqueur recipe fell into the hands of the nanny of the family who kept it and bequeathed it to their descendants. In the 1940s, Dr. Kenneth Leigh Evans eventually regained the recipe and began marketing the liquor commercially.

The Tia Maria brand is now part of the Italian spirits group ILLVA Saronno SpA , which is known among other things for the Amaretto Disaronno liqueur .

Tia Maria is drunk pure on ice, with milk or in conjunction with coffee and is used as an ingredient in cocktails . The most famous cocktails with Tia Maria are the Tia Espresso Martini, Tia Mint Frappé and the Tia Americano.
