Tibetan zodiac signs
The twelve Tibetan signs of the zodiac ( Tib . : khyim bcu gnyis ) result from the division of the ecliptic into twelve equal parts and thus form an angular measure of Tibetan astronomy , which was important in addition to the division of the ecliptic into lunar houses .
The system of signs of the zodiac was used in particular to describe the position of the sun at the time of the solstices and the equinoxes.
For the Tibetan calendar it was also important to calculate the times when the sun entered a zodiac sign.
The calculation of the times and duration (tib: dus-sbyor ) of the rise of the individual signs of the zodiac, which in this context are called ascendants , was in the foreground for Tibetan astrology.
A connection between the signs of the zodiac and the idea of certain constellations was not specifically discussed in Tibetan astronomy, unlike the moon houses.
