Lists on the subject |
The Tien Chien II (Sky Sword II) is a medium-range air-to-air missile that has been used by the Taiwanese Air Force since 1999. It has been developed and produced by the Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology (CSIST) since the early 1990s. Contrary to what the name suggests, the Tien Chien II is not a successor to the Tien Chien I - it is more of a medium-range extension for the Taiwanese Air Force.
The seeker head is based on an AIM-120 design by Motorola and Raytheon . Raytheon delivered a total of 200 seeker head kits to the CSIST.
Various magazines, including Jane's Defense Weekly , reported that the CSIST is developing further missiles based on the Tien Chien II missile. Among other things, an air-to-surface anti-radar missile (Tien Chien IIA) and a surface-to-air missile are planned.
