Tihamér Koncz (born October 1, 1925 in Budapest ; † 1997 ) was a Hungarian civil engineer, known for precast concrete construction .

biography

His father and grandfather were building contractors. He went to school in Budapest and studied civil engineering at the TH Budapest from 1943 to 1947. After his father died and was unable to continue the construction company due to the political situation, he found a job with Professor I. Menyhard, who had just been released from prison, whom he helped to prepare the Hungarian reinforced concrete standards (they were already n-free in 1950 and safety factors like other later modern standards in Europe and used 2nd order theory on reinforced concrete columns). He then worked as a structural engineer in industrial construction at Iparterv, where he was group leader in 1952 and department manager in 1954. He also became known internationally for the design of industrial halls. In 1957, after the failure of the Hungarian uprising, he first went to Zurich, Switzerland. In 1962 he opened an engineering office there. He worked a lot in Italy, not only in industrial construction, but soon also in prefabricated housing.

Koncz received his doctorate in 1960 at the Technical University of Braunschweig under Walter Henn ( on the design, construction and stability of multi-storey industrial buildings made of precast reinforced concrete ). After completing his dissertation, he was commissioned by Bauverlag to write a manual on precast construction, which first appeared in 1962 and was translated into many languages.

He was also involved in bridges such as the Semorile Viaduct .
