Tilphussa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tilphussa (also Tilphusa or Telphusa) was a sacred spring in Boeotia in Greek mythology , which was consecrated to the god Apollo after he drove away the spring nymph Tilphussa, who originally lived here. Anyone was denied drinking from it if he did not want to attract the wrath of the sun god.

The old seer Teiresias, however, exhausted from a long journey (according to other sources, a long escape), drank from the spring and died on the spot. His grave is located near the holy spring.
