Tilray is a Canadian pharmaceutical and cannabis company founded in the United States and based in Nanaimo , British Columbia . Tilray also has offices in Australia and New Zealand, Germany, Portugal and Latin America.

history

Tilray was founded in 2013, initially under the umbrella of Seattle- based Privateer Holdings . In December 2016, Tilray became the first medical cannabis manufacturer in North America to be GMP certified.

In July 2018, the company was the first cannabis company to go public on the NASDAQ and is traded under the ticket symbol TLRY. In September 2018, Tilray became the first Canadian cannabis company to legally export medical cannabis to the United States for clinical study. In December 2018, the company signed an agreement with Novartis AG's Sandoz Generic Pharmaceuticals subsidiary to sell, distribute and co-brand Tilray for non-smokable medical cannabis products in legal markets around the world.

At the beginning of 2019, Joschka Fischer became a founding member of Tilray's international advisory board, which is supposed to help implement an "aggressive global growth strategy".
