Times Square Show

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Times Square Show was in June 1980 held art exhibition near the Times Square .

The Times Square Show was organized by Colab and took place in an abandoned massage parlor. On four floors, among other things, pictures, films and live performances by over a hundred artists were shown, who wanted to draw attention to the complex population of the Times Square at that time through their stylistic diversity and the use of varied media. Driven by national debt and more and more broken buildings, New York was burned out at the time and was associated with a lot of prostitution and violence. In order to set an example against the impending gentrification, the artist collective Colab designed an exhibition with many symbolic aspects of the Times Square around sex, violence and urban decay. The exhibition received international attention and was documented on film by Matthew Geller .
