Normal is an artist group founded in 1979 .

It consists of the artists Peter Angermann , Jan Knap and Milan Kunc . They met at the beginning of the 1970s as students at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Joseph Beuys and Gerhard Richter . The group operated in the circle of friends around the Düsseldorf music label Ata Tak until 1984 . Their declared aim was to counter the prevailing elitist "academic avant-gardism" with a painting that was as unraveled and compatible as possible.
