Milan Kunc

Milan Kunc (* 1944 in Prague ) is a painter (postmodern, ironic-defiant socialist realism; “embarrassing realism”, “punk pop”, “east pop” with elements from advertising, photography, street art, comic art; melodramatic allegories; Confrontation of this art with this art business).

life and work

Kunc studied at the Prague Art Academy from 1964 to 1967 . In 1969 he emigrated to the FRG and studied from 1970 to 1975 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Manfred Sieler , Joseph Beuys and Gerhard Richter . 1979 Founding of the Normal group ( Peter Angermann , Jan Knap , Milan Kunc). In addition to his painting, Kunc created sculptures, photo work and organized performances and street actions in Wuppertal. From 1980 he implemented the artistic program "International Folklore", a generally understandable art for the people.

Kunc lived in Cologne , Rome , New York City and The Hague and returned to Prague in 2004.

In 2019 he designed a BMW i8 with the theme of the pressing environmental issues of our time. Although not an official BMW Art Car , it will also be shown in the BMW Museum and will ultimately be auctioned for the benefit of The Ocean Cleanup project.
