The Kunsthalle Erfurt is located in the old town of Erfurt , at the fish market in the Haus zum Roten Ochsen . This is also the seat of the Erfurt Art Association .

After a long and complex restoration and modernization of the technical installations, the Kunsthalle Erfurt was inaugurated in 1979 as a gallery and exhibition space.

Today the Kunsthalle Erfurt has an exhibition area of 750 square meters, which it uses for constantly changing exhibitions of the fine arts - thematically from the beginning of modernism to the immediate present.

The cultural site , which is mainly financed with municipal funds, does not have its own art collection. Rather, it would like to be a platform for young artists to present their work to the public.

Another focus is the retrospectives on internationally important modern classics. Increasingly, modern art trends in digital photography , video art as well as sound and spatial installations are also presented in the exhibitions. These complement the previous focus on painting, sculpture and graphics.
