Ata Tak is a 1979 in Wuppertal , founded as a "Warning Records" and today in Dusseldorf fitting music label . It is considered one of the pioneers of the German independent movement and one of the initiators of the NDW .
History of origin
The Düsseldorf label Ata Tak was founded in 1979 by Pyrolator under the name Warning Records and renamed Ata Tak in 1980 with his partners Frank Fenstermacher and Moritz Reichelt . The name Ata Tak is an onomatopoeic corruption of Art Attack , the name of the New Wave art gallery in Wuppertal operated by Reichelt and Fenstermacher since 1978 .
The label's first release was a 7 ″ single by the band Der Plan , which was released in 1979 with an edition of 1,500 copies. Pyrolator joined the band a little later. The second release and at the same time the first album was the debut album by German American Friendship : Product of the DAF , which is often referred to as the band's zeroth release. This album was purely instrumental and instead of Gabi Delgado-López Pyrolator played the synthesizer . Several works by Pyrolator and Der Plan appeared by 1981.
The most famous release of the label was Fred vom Jupiter by Andreas Dorau , which reached # 21 in the German singles charts in 1982. In 1983 Dorau switched to CBS , but his first albums were still produced by Ata Tak. CBS kept him down though. Dorau then returned to Ata Tak.
Throughout the 1980s, the label continued to take care of Der Plan, Pyrolator, Holger Hiller , Die Tödliche Doris and Lost Gringos , and several individual works by NDW artists were published. In 1985 the label sampler Ata Tak - The Heart of Germany appeared in Japan . In addition to sound carriers, VHS videos, books and, from 2004, DVDs also appeared on the label.
Since the beginning of the 1990s, the label has been operated by Window Maker and Pyrolator alone. Das Büro was founded in the mid-1980s and, in addition to management tasks, mainly organized sales. The groups produced include Die Tödliche Doris , Fehlfarben and Der Plan .
