Minus delta t
Minus Delta t (−Δ t difference between two times with a negative value ) was a performance and music group that was founded in Zurich in 1978 and caused a sensation with its experimental action art until the mid-1980s .
history
The founders of Minus Delta t appeared from 1978 mainly in the German-speaking punk scene . Mike Hentz , Karel Dudesek , Chrislo Haas and sporadic member padeluun created a tension between the audience and the artists through provocative actions. At one of the first appearances in the Ratinger Hof in Düsseldorf in 1978, they poured plaster of paris over the floor at an event they called “cleaning action”, threw animal carcasses around them and then swarmed flies specially bred for this purpose. In addition, they deliberately prevented alcohol consumption in the restaurant on this Friday evening by placing Robert Görl on the counter with his drums. Also with the “Shvantz! Festival ”on November 2, 1979 in the Städelschule in Frankfurt , an event by the artists of the“ Schvantz! Art Magazine ”by Walter E. Baumann , made the group a talking point.
During “Noise for the 80s” on December 29, 1979 in the Hamburg market hall, they filled the audience waiting for rock music with the sounds of the police radio from the loudspeaker system.
1980 Chrislo Haas left the formation, u. a. came Wolfgang Georgsdorf , Gerard Couty and Bernhard Müller it.
Starting in 1982, Minus Delta t transported a 5.5-ton boulder from Europe to Asia in a spectacular campaign entitled “Bangkok Project”. The trip went through Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Pakistan and via Nepal to India and ended in 1984 at the “Bangkok Festival”, which the group helped to design and organize. A “share” was launched for this campaign, the graphics of which were designed by the Austrian artist Chris Scheuer .
In 1987 Minus Delta t appeared on the grounds of Documenta 8 as the “cultural police” and subjected unsuspecting visitors to embarrassing interrogations. As part of the documenta performance program curated by Elisabeth Jappe , part of the group also ran a pirate TV channel and invited artists to produce contributions in a container studio. The combination of Internet and TV was further developed in the following years at the Ars Electronica in Linz as part of the Van Gogh TV group and reappeared at documenta IX 1992 as “Piazza Virtuale”.
In 1987 Minus Delta t performed his avant-garde production Opera Death in Berlin , which was released in the same year on the independent label Ata Tak .
"Minus Delta t" (Mike Hentz and Karel Dudesek) performed at Manifesta 11 in Zurich 2016 as part of the performance program Cabaret der Künstler - Zunfthaus Voltaire .
