Mike Hentz ( Mike Andrew Hentz , born July 2, 1954 in New Jersey ) is an international graphic artist , photographer, musician, performance artist and video artist. He has taught at various art schools and is mainly concerned with media art .

biography

Mike Hentz, who speaks fluent English, German, Italian and French, grew up as the son of an engineer and an interpreter in the USA, Italy, Switzerland and Austria. He is a Swiss and US citizen. Hentz received classical lessons on the violin , attended a hotel management school in Lausanne , trained at the music theater in Paris and traveled through Europe. In the late 1970s, Hentz moved to North Rhine-Westphalia, worked as a situation and action artist and first joined the music theater performance group padlt noidlt (with Michael Jansen , Frank Köllges , Andreas Brüning , later Xaõ Seffcheque ) in Düsseldorf . He then co-founded the Minus Delta t performance group .

In between, Hentz lived in Zurich and was significantly involved in the organization of the 3rd “Padlt Noidlt” festival in Graz. In the 80s he held several guest professorships at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts , was an actor at the Frankfurt Opera House and recorded the album Death Opera with "Minus Delta t" .

In 1980 he was co-founder of “Frigo” and “Radio Bellevue”, and in 1989 of “European Media Art Lab”. In 1988 Hentz realized an issue of the video art magazine Infermental . In the 1990s he realized the “Piazza Virtuale” project with Van Gogh TV and numerous interactive television events via cable or satellite with “Universcity TV” . Hentz also expanded his sphere of activity to the Eastern European countries, where he taught at the Institute for Art and Technology in Moscow and at the University in Riga and in Warsaw , in cooperation with Polish television, dealt with the design and dissemination of media art.

From 2003 to 2008 Hentz taught at the Stuttgart Art Academy , Intermedial Design.
