Alba Luz Arbeláez Álvarez

Alba Luz Arbeláez Álvarez (born April 6, 1965 in Puerto Berrío , Antioquia ; often just written Alba Luz Arbeláez ) is a Colombian botanist . Her research focus is on real ferns from South and Central America. Your official botanical author abbreviation is " Arbeláez ".

Arbeláez began studying biology at the University of Antioquia in 1982 and graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science , her thesis was a revision of the Pterideae of Colombia. During her studies she worked among other things on the Flora de Antioquia and the herbarium of the University of Antioquia.

From 1988 to 1989 she was at Aarhus University , where she worked on the genus Pteris in Ecuador . In 1994 she moved to the New York Botanical Garden , where in 1995 at Lehman College of the Master was awarded. In 1996 she published a monograph on the Pterideae as part of the Flora de Colombia , and then worked on the hedgehog ferns of Ecuador.

In 2008 Arbeláez worked in the “Nicaraguan Fern Project” of the Missouri Botanical Garden , while working on a monograph on the genus Meliosma in the Neotropic .

Arbeláez regularly described new species, besides ferns ( Pteris , Notholaena , Lindsaea ) also bedecktsamer ( Meliosma ).
