Flora de Colombia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Flora de Colombia is a series of monographs published since 1983 on the extremely species-rich Colombian flora. It is published by the Instituto de Ciencias Naturales (Natural Science Institute) of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogota, the editors change.

By 2009, 26 individual volumes had been published, mostly on individual plant families , but occasionally also on departments, orders, tribes , genera or sub-genera. So far only volumes on vascular plants have appeared . The titles do not appear in an orderly sequence; a fixed number of volumes does not appear to be planned. In addition to systematic information, the volumes also contain identification keys , complete descriptions, ethnobotanical notes, illustrations and distribution maps.

The flora language is Spanish, but Volume 26 was published in English. Up to volume 18 (with the exception of double volume 6/7) all authors were Colombians, after that, increasingly renowned international authors such as Ghillean T. Prance ( Chrysobalanaceae , Dichapetalaceae ), Dennis Wm. Stevenson ( Cycadales ) or Maximilian Weigend ( Loasaceae ) were won.
