Paul Maas (botanist)
Paul Maas (born February 27, 1939 in Arnhem ), actually Paulus Johannes Maria Maas , is a Dutch botanist . His main research interests are mykoheterotrophic plants, ginger plants and annone plants . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Maas ".
Life
Maas originally wanted to study chemistry, but then studied biology at the University of Utrecht from 1957 to 1964 . He then undertook extensive research trips through the Neotropics until 1986 . In 1973 he was awarded a doctorate for his "Revision of the New World Costoideae" . Maas had been employed at the Institute for Systematic Botany in Utrecht since 1965, and from 1974 he was curator for flowering plants of what is now the National Herbarium .
Maas often worked closely with his wife Hiltje Maas-van de Kamer , since 1982 also temporarily with Traudel Rübsamen . For Flora Neotropica he wrote five volumes from 1972 to 1986 on ginger plants, Burmanniaceae , Triuridaceae and Gentianaceae , and he also wrote volumes for many other flora .
Maas has collected over 10,000 plants and described more than 250 new taxa.
