Robert Görl (born June 15, 1955 in Munich ) is a German musician . He founded the German American Friendship (DAF) music group together with Gabi Delgado-López . In addition, Robert Görl released several solo albums, including Night Full of Tension , on which Annie Lennox participated in some songs.

Life

At the age of 18, Görl received drum lessons from jazz musician Freddie Brocksieper . In 1974 he began classical music training at the Leopold Mozart Conservatory in Augsburg and from 1976 at the University of Graz . In addition to his studies, he devoted himself to jazz . In 1978 he interrupted his studies, went to London and turned to punk music . In the same year he met Gabriel “Gabi” Delgado-López in Düsseldorf, with whom he founded the DAF group. Robert Görl worked at DAF as a composer and musician. Between 1979 and 2003, DAF released a total of seven studio albums.

International success came in 1981 with the third DAF album Alles ist Gut , and two European tours followed. In 1982 DAF received the German Record Award for this album. In 1983 DAF parted for the first time at their musical peak, after three globally successful albums for Virgin Records .

In 1981 Robert Görl played drums for the Eurythmics album In the Garden . Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox appeared on Görl's first solo album Night Full of Tension in 1984 . Robert Görl and Annie Lennox sang the song Darling Don't Leave Me in a duet .

On a comeback in 1986, DAF released their first English-language album 1st Step to Heaven .

In 1989 Robert Görl suffered a serious car accident. He then became a Buddhist and spent three years traveling through Asia to study . After his return he published various solo albums and singles on Peter Wacha's Munich techno label Disko B in the 1990s .

Between 2000 and 2002 he met Gabi Delgado-López to prepare for a comeback from DAF. As a result, the album 15 New DAF Songs was created in early 2003 . In 2003 DAF performed live for the first time in Tokyo, in the Yokohama Stadium. In November 2005 the group separated again.

In 2008 DAF made another comeback. The anniversary tour “30 Years of DAF (The 30 Years War)” followed. In September 2010 the duo released the single Du bist DAF , which is only available as a limited merchandising product.
