Otterness' work can be seen in gardens, parks and squares in New York City and other North American cities. His works of art in public spaces want to break through people's everyday lives and gain their attention for a moment.

On behalf of the State Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Otterness placed a hundred small bronze figures in a subway station in New York. His cartoon- style characters include craftsmen with construction helmets and tools, employees with ties, fat rich people with a money bag instead of a head, and some mythical creatures.

His style is very pictorial, simplistic and cheerful, for example his works contain irregular colored surfaces.

In Germany, among other things, is Otterness' artwork Überfrau . This sculpture in Münster , located between the building parts of the city library , is supposed to symbolize “the female figure as the personification of wisdom and freedom”.

In the " Museum Beelden aan Zee " on the beach in Scheveningen in the Netherlands there is a group of 23 sculptures, which mainly represent fairy tales.

In 1994 Otterness was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design in New York . Otterness is a member of the Colab group .
