Timon Altwegg

Timon Altwegg (born May 18, 1967 in Münsterlingen ) is a Swiss pianist .

Career

Altwegg began his career with Hubert Mahler. In 1989 he graduated with a teaching diploma from the Swiss Music Education Association (SMPV) in Zurich. He then lived in London for two years, where he studied with Alan Rowlands at the Royal College of Music . In 1992 he finished his stay in England with the Piano Performing Diploma (concert diploma) and was then awarded the title "Associate of the Royal College of Music".

Timon Altwegg has been living in Kreuzlingen on Lake Constance again since 1992, from where he performs a lively concert activity. He has developed into a sought-after soloist and chamber musician and has been invited to concerts in the USA and throughout Europe. In the summer of 2001 Timon Altwegg was invited to the «Llanca» festival in Spain. Further concerts with him were broadcast live on Hungarian radio and television as well as on Austrian television (ORF). Timon Altwegg also celebrated great success in South America: In 2005 and autumn 2007 he toured Ecuador, Colombia, Guatemala and El Salvador.

In May 2004, Timon Altwegg was cheered by 1200 listeners in a historic concert when he was the first foreign soloist since 1990 to perform with the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra in Baghdad; this concert and the subsequent master class at the music academy in Baghdad were supported by the Swiss Embassy, ​​the Swiss Foreign Ministry and the Iraqi Ministry of Culture. This concert tour was also followed by Shrapnel's 2005 work . En marge de Baghdad honored the writer Élisabeth Horem . Thanks to the great public success of his tours abroad, he is regularly supported by the Center de Compétence Culturelle des FDFA (Swiss Foreign Ministry).

Timon Altwegg's excellent technique is also valued by many contemporary composers who entrust him with their works for the first performance. The Swiss composer Frank Levy , who lives in the USA , dedicated a piano sonata to him. In addition, due to his great commitment to English composers, he has been appointed Musical Advisor of the Swain-Alexander Trust in London.
