Tinside pool

The Tinside Pool is a unique bathing complex in Plymouth in the south-west of England , which was built in 1935 in the Art Deco style . The basin forms a semicircle and is fed with fresh lake water, so that a complete water exchange takes place every four hours. The outdoor pool is on the banks of the Plymouth Sound ; it is overlooked by Plymouth Hoe and Smeaton's Tower . The facility is open between May and September.

During the Second World War , the striking structure served as a landmark for German pilots , while the city's residents used the pool to wash off dirt and dust after the bombing.

Because the number of visitors had fallen sharply, the outdoor pool was closed in 1992. The activity of a citizens' initiative finally led to the extensive renovation of the building, which was registered in Stage II of the Listed Buildings in 1998. The cost of the renovation amounted to 3.4 million British pounds . The reopening took place in 2005.
