Tischlein deck dich is a Swiss food aid organization based in Winterthur . It distributes food to people who live in financial straits.

history

The organization was founded in 1999 by Beat Curti. In its first year, the organization distributed 18 tons of food to the needy. [1] Usually these are products that are about to expire, come from overproduction or have damaged packaging and are of perfect quality. Tischlein deck dich picks up this food from over 1000 companies from agriculture, industry and retail and saves it from destruction. The denominational and politically neutral association lives from financial and product donations. Coop, Migros, Transgourmet and the Ernst Göhner Foundation support Tischlein deck dich as main sponsors.

organization

Tischlein deck dich maintains over 132 delivery points in Switzerland and in the Principality of Liechtenstein, which are operated by more than 3,000 volunteers. Each delivery point is open for one hour once a week. The food aid supports an average of 20,000 people with perfect food. In 2019, the organization saved 4,543 tons of food from destruction and distributed it to those affected by poverty. The organization supplies the individual delivery points from six logistics warehouses with more than 20 refrigerated vehicles of its own. Every day over 120 employees work in work integration and employment programs, around 15 people doing community service and a few permanent employees. Tischlein deck dich is ISO9001 certified.

If you want to purchase food from Tischlein deck dich, you have to apply for a purchase card from one of 1200 regional social welfare offices, which is issued after the applicant's financial situation has been checked. For every weekly food they buy, Tischlein deck dich customers pay one symbolic franc.
