history

The current district of Eichhof was created in 1950 as a settlement for refugees . The developer at that time was the Hessische Heimstätte . The Eichhof settlement community was later founded by the refugees . By mid-1953, 167 apartments had been built for around 680 people, and 40 more apartments were under construction. At that time a Protestant and a Catholic church were built. The settlement also created jobs. A farm, a gardening shop, a carpenter's shop, a hairdresser's shop, various retail outlets and agricultural sideline jobs were created. In addition to a bakery, there was also a small post office and a craft business.

In 1962 a sports club of its own , SSV Eichhof 1962 e. V., founded. The club colors are black and white.

Today most of the shops and businesses have disappeared from the overall picture of the district.

Since December 12, 2012 there has been a “shop for everything” for local supplies and as a district meeting place. This shop was operated in cooperation with Tegut and the association die Brücke (association for psychosocial help in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district), which has now been closed again.

The Internet department store Amazon built its first logistics center in Bad Hersfeld west of the settlement in 1999 ; RS Components joined the company a year later. A small solar park was founded at the end of 2008. The Hessian Biogas Research Center (HBFZ) was opened on August 19, 2011 .
